Thrasher Foundation Repair Case Studies: Floor Support Project in Cripple Creek, CO
Challenge
Two local homeowners in Cripple Creek, CO were concerned about the lack of support underneath the flooring system. They were afraid that if they didn't take action now that these issues would only get worse and they wanted to prevent any structural issues in the future. On top of the issues with their floor supports, they also had standing water in their basement due to a plumbing issue and had concerns with the air quality in their home.
System Design Specialist Anthony Salcedo was sent to the scene to evaluate the situation and determine the root causes of the problems. While Anthony was investigating, he discovered that several previous homeowners had built supports for the structural beams and the flooring system. These were installed with no permanent support or footings to provide long-term support. We advised the homeowners to get this problem solved so that they won't have to deal with it further down the road.
Solution
Once we were hired for this project, we got going right away! First, we had to address the standing water situation. We installed a temporary sump pump to keep the basement dry until the plumbing issue was resolved. We then faced the foundation and floor support issues. We installed several SmartJacks and paired them with supplemental beams. SmartJacks are designed to shore up sagging joists and beams and are used in conjunction with an existing column,
We then addressed the homeowners' concerns about the air quality in the home. To resolve this, we added a SaniDry dehumidification and air purification system for indoor air quality. SaniDry keeps homes below 50% relative humidity, so neither mold nor dust mites have a chance to survive.
These solutions improved both homeowners' quality of life and gave them peace of mind. They said they were happy with our continued communication about what we could help them with.
