Shane reached out to us because he noticed the basement walls were bowing in the home his grandfather built. He knew he had to do something as this home is a cherished family treasure.
The culprit's in the soil
We performed a thorough inspection of the entire property and discovered the cause of the bowing, buckling, and cracking foundation walls. This home was older – which means the building materials used were rubble, stone, and brick, and overtime, they had started to deteriorate. The prevailing problem for older homes with foundation issues stems from expansive clays and hydrostatic pressure from moisture build-up in the soil. Left unaddressed, this can threaten your home’s structural integrity. Early symptoms can include drywall or plaster cracks, uneven floors, and stuck doors or windows.
The key to addressing a bowing wall lies in a permanent solution. Options such as wall anchors, braces, carbon fiber straps, and piers offer tailored fixes based on your home's unique characteristics.
Solution
Foundation repaired with wall anchors
To permanently repair Shane’s home, we recommended our Geo-Lock Foundation Wall Anchor System.. The wall anchors consist of galvanized steel earth anchors that are embedded into the soil away from your foundation wall. One anchor is placed in compact, load-bearing soil in your yard and the other is placed at a critical point on your foundation wall, where it’s secured in the yard anchor by a steel rod held by an adjusting mechanism on the basement anchor. This immediately prevents further cracking, bowing, or buckling. Over time, using the adjustment mechanism returns the wall to its original position, closing cracks and restoring structural integrity.
With the wall anchors in place, Shane's basement walls have undergone a transformation, ensuring structural soundness for years to come.
