FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 12, 2012

Omaha, NE – The cancer that kills the most people in the United States every year is also one of the most preventable, and Thrasher is ready to play a key role in the prevention of lung cancer. During Lung Cancer Awareness month this November and every month, Thrasher is working with homeowners all over the area to test their homes for radon, the second leading cause of lung cancer.

Radon is an odorless, colorless, radioactive gas that can seep into homes through cracks in the foundations, walls, crawl spaces and wells. Exposure to radon causes more than 20,000 cases of lung cancer in the United States each year.

Thrasher is working during November to spread the awareness about lung cancer. Here are a few facts about lung cancer:

  • it kills more people than breast and prostate cancers combined
  • the survival rate for lung cancer is one of the lowest for those with cancer
  • lung cancer surpasses breast cancer as the number one cause of death among women.
  • in many cases, lung cancer can be prevented.

Preventing lung cancer caused by radon exposure is easy and affordable. Thrasher has highly trained radon experts available to help test homes and businesses for radon. If levels are found to be above the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommended maximum of 4 picocuries per liter of air, Thrasher can work with the homeowner to install an affordable and aesthetically pleasing mitigation system.

For more information on radon and its health effects, radon testing and radon mitigation systems, please contact Thrasher.
