In new construction and existing homes alike, foundation flooding is an all-too-common problem. When a basement floods, it ruins the space's usability, while many of the stored items in the area are damaged by the flood. If the basement is finished, the damage is even worse as drywall, wood studs, carpet, and furniture can be ruined even in a minor water event. Mold can begin to snowball if the materials aren't dried immediately, and usually, most items have to be removed and replaced.
Even when appropriate measures to waterproof the foundation were taken when the home was initially built, it is still possible to eventually get water in the basement. Even if those measures were taken, there's a good chance that your basement will flood sooner or later.
In the event that this happens, Thrasher Foundation Repair can help you waterproof the foundation. Our installations include patented waterproofing products and written warranties.
While there are many products and solutions available, our specialist can work with you to design the best solution for your situation.
Existing Structure Foundation Waterproofing
Once construction is done and the home has been lived in, Thrasher rarely recommends foundation waterproofing from the exterior. This solution requires massive disruption that isn't necessary and is more susceptible to failure.
Installing a drainage system on the interior is often the best option. It will eliminate the need to dig out the foundation's perimeter, including steps, sidewalks, patios, gardens, shrubs, etc. Interior foundation waterproofing systems are also much easier to maintain.
Thrasher often advises homeowners to install an interior waterproofing drainage system, such as WaterGuard® Basement Drainage System. This basement drain installs along the foundation walls' interior perimeter, where it collects water and sends it to a sump pump system such as the TripleSafe or other sump pump system.
WaterGuard® includes a wall flange that extends up slightly from the drainage system. This flange provides a built-in wall drain to collect water from the walls and can be combined with a vapor barrier for the walls themselves. This means that your entire foundation perimeter is protected, while the drain itself is nearly invisible in your basement.
WaterGuard® can be installed in one, sometimes two days. Basement Systems® dealers have been installing WaterGuard® in basements since 1994, and today millions and millions of feet have been installed all across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
