This customer in South Bend, NE was noticing a musty odor in their home. Not knowing where it was coming from, they decided to take a look in their crawl space and noticed moisture causing this smell. The team came out and found puddling water in spots in the crawl space causing high moisture levels which is why they were getting the odor in the home. We solved this by cleaning out the area and encapsulating the crawl space and sealing the area with a durable vapor barrier.  System Design Specialist Corey Little began the crawl space encapsulation by installing our SilverGlo insulation that reflects and traps heat within the space. It’s an effective radiant barrier that’s also resistant to mold to keep the home energy efficient. The team also applied rim joists to seal all gaps and prevent air from escaping upward. To complete the encapsulation, they covered the entire crawl space in our CleanSpace waterproof liner to control humidity and prevent warm or cold air from entering through pipes and vents.

We used helical piers to stabilize the corner of the home to prevent further damage and settlement. James also wanted to make sure that his crawl space was okay and could be used as storage. So we encapsulated the space with CleanSpace, drainage matting and put SilverGlo up on the walls to insulate for energy efficiency. A smart drain was also installed to alert him if water ever entered the space again and to keep humidity down, we also put in a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier.
