The TrenchDrain(TM) Grated Drainage Pipe System

Stop flooding through doorways, hatchways, and entryways with the TrenchDrain(TM) Grated Drainage Pipe System.

TrenchDrain can also be used in conjunction with an interior drainage system to go around furnaces, water heaters, and other obstacles in your basement.

What It Does

When you have exterior doors, hatchway doors, or permanent stairs leading to your basement, you are at higher risk of water coming into the basement through that location. Often water will TrenchDrainrun down the stairs and under any exterior door. If your driveway slopes toward your garage, you may also get water in under your garage door. Many homeowners have contacted us with concerns about water flowing into their homes through these entrances. One solution to these types of problems is the TrenchDrain Drainage Pipe System.

TrenchDrain is a traditional basement drainage pipe but with a grated opening fitted snugly to the top. The grate is flush against or slightly below floor level to avoid a trip hazard while still collecting any water. Uniquely designed to span doorways, hatchway entrances or other similar openings, water passing over the grate is collected through the grate's openings and redirected to your sump pump.

Advantages To Our System

  • Grated Openings Collect Flooding Water
  • Removable Lid For Cleaning & Service
  • Designed To Create No Tripping Hazards
  • Compatible With Our Other Drain Systems
  • Includes A Written Lifetime Warranty

Our TrenchDrain System has a removable lid that can be taken off to remove leaves, dirt, or debris that could clog your system. When TrenchDrain is combined with our WaterGuard system, you can rest assured that your basement will stay dry. By removing the lid, you can also use the TrenchDrain as an access point to check your drainage system or test it with a garden hose.

Stop Flooding Through Garage Doors

Many of our customers have the TrenchDrain System installed along with the opening to their garage door. In this application, the drain will intercept the water and direct it to your sump pump system.

We always recommend installing the drain along the inside of the garage, where it's much less likely to freeze during the winter months. Installing our drain along the inside of the door will protect it from clogging with debris, such as dirt, sand, and leaves.

If a TrenchDrain System is installed outside of the door, several additional precautions have to be taken:

  • Any sump pump has to be upgraded to a grinder pump to handle leaves and debris. This also requires a larger discharge line to carry the debris away.
  • If there are any issues with the driveway heaving in the winter, it may damage the TrenchDrain and render it useless.
  • During freezing temperatures, water will not flow through the drain, and water may still run under the garage door.

When Draining Hatchway Doors...

When installing this system on hatchway doors, we will generally recommend installing them inside the hatchway entrance (instead of in the basement itself) when possible. This allows it to catch water in the hatchway and drain it to the sump pump connected by the WaterGuard System flowing under the basement walls.

Since the TrenchDrain Drainage Pipe System includes a grated opening, it separates the basement drain as much as possible.

Install a Warrantied Drainage Pipe System in Your Home

TrenchDrain can come in handy when installing an interior drainage system. If you don't want to move your furnace or water heater for the installation, our crews can run TrenchDrain around those appliances. This allows water that comes in through that part of the foundation not still find its way into the system. If you replace the device in the future, we can come back and adjust the system to go behind the new appliance.

Including a section of TrenchDrain in your full-perimeter drainage pipe system does not add any additional cost to the completed waterproofing system. Even if your hatchway isn't leaking now, we recommend installing this system just in case. TrenchDrain is just another tool in the Thrasher Foundation Repair toolbox that allows us to customize your approach to the way that works best for you and your home.
