Water in the basement kept this homeowner from enjoying more living space.
Thrasher installed an exterior waterproofing system and helical tiebacks to repair a bowed wall.
The owners of this home were experiencing water in their basement. Their hopes were to finish the basement and put in a beautiful master suite, but water kept them from that dream. When the field consultant discussed future plans with the homeowners, he recommended an exterior waterproofing system with an exterior sump pump. After meeting with the homeowners’ contractor and reviewing the basement remodeling plans, Thrasher came up with a repair plan to regain the living space using an exterior mirror drain system.
Unfortunately, it’s pretty typical in the Kansas City area to experience water coming into the basement. Thrasher has many options to address water problems, including using French drains in the yard, exterior drainage systems and interior drainage systems. In this case, a combination of wall straightening and exterior waterproofing made the basement space usable.
In addition to recommending the installation of an exterior waterproofing and a drainage system, Thrasher recommended that seven helical tiebacks be installed to straighten the severely bowed foundation wall. The installation process involved excavating along the exterior of the affected wall, coring through the wall from inside the basement so that the anchors could be installed, then installing the anchors into load bearing soil. Waterproofing was then completed prior to putting the soil back along the wall. The wall was then straightened and permanently held in place by the tieback anchors. Finally, the homeowners’ contractor finished the basement and now they have a beautiful living space.
